QB VII is Leon Uris' masterful fictionalization of a libel suit which grew out of the publication of his book EXODUS. In EXODUS, Uris named a Nazi doctor whom, he asserted, performed experimental surgery on human guinea pigs in Auschwitz.

QB VII, which refers to the courtroom in which the libel case was heard, is a fictionalized account of that trial. QB VII marked the farewell performance of Jack Hawkins who had for several years performed without a voice box due to throat cancer which finally claimed him. In QB VII a voice similar to his was used which was not always the case. In a sense this film is his because Hawkins plays the judge presiding over the court in QB VII. QB VII is a gripping drama, largely based on author Uris’s own protracted libel defense against a former concentration camp surgeon named in his novel Exodus. It was made into the first miniseries in television history.
